Farm Maintenance

Preventive Farm Maintenance: What Should Be Included?

A practical framework for checking farm infrastructure and agricultural systems before failures occur.

Preventive maintenance is a planned way to keep farm systems usable and identify deterioration early. A useful plan covers physical structures, water systems, growing areas and records of completed work.

List the assets that need attention

Create a simple register of greenhouses, net houses, pumps, filters, tanks, valves, pipelines, doors and landscape irrigation. Note their location and the basic checks each item needs.

Set a realistic inspection rhythm

Some observations belong in daily operation, while structural and equipment checks may follow weekly, monthly or seasonal plans. The schedule should reflect actual site conditions.

Record defects and priorities

Use clear descriptions and photos to record what was found, the level of urgency and the action taken. This makes recurring issues easier to identify and plan for.

Plan rehabilitation when repair is no longer enough

Repeated patching may indicate that a covering, net, cooling component or pipe section needs wider replacement. Compare the condition, operational impact and future maintenance needs before deciding.
